Airport Concessions : Travel Retail

Your design partners have never sat in your seat.

We have.

Brand strategy. Operational intelligence.

"We've sat on both sides of the table. That changes what we build."

The Moment

Too many design firms lead with vision and leave operators holding the build.

The airport traveler has evolved. Higher expectations, higher discretionary spend, and a lower tolerance for generic. They want a sense of place — a concept that feels like it belongs in this terminal, in this city. Technology has changed how they order, pay, and move through a space. The gate hold has become dwell time — and dwell time has become revenue.

Getting it right means holding both. The elevated concept and the practical build. The brand story, the operator`s margin, the approvals and the 6am / 6pm traveler. That requires someone who understands the opportunity and the constraints in equal measure.

" That is what we bring. Strategy-led. Operationally grounded. Design-executed."

The Problem

Sound Familiar?

"Deadline on the table. Budget under pressure. Brand to build."

We have responded to these from both sides of the table — inside the operator and inside the agency. We know what selection committees are actually scoring because we have been in those rooms. Concept narrative, renderings, floor plan, materials board, brand story — built to win, not just to submit.

Chef-driven restaurants and celebrity chef tie-ins. QSRs, grab-and-go, coffee stands, food halls. Inline and freestanding units, gatehold islands, VIP and lounge-adjacent. We have designed across all of it. The operational difference between a gatehold island and an inline food and beverage unit is not a detail — it is the brief.

We have been here before. The OTG program at Newark was one of the most significant technology integrations in airport F&B — 6,000+ iPad ordering devices, elastic kitchen staffing, ordering from anywhere in the terminal. It changed kitchen design, staffing models, and revenue per square foot. We know where AI and frictionless ordering are taking it.

We understand the full range — from an overnight signage and equipment refresh to a full renovation. We work within current infrastructure to find the most cost-effective boost, minimizing disruption to a live operation while maximizing what the space can earn.

var acc = document.getElementsByClassName("sp1-accordion"); var i; for (i = 0; i < acc.length; i++) { acc[i].addEventListener("click", function() { this.classList.toggle("active"); var panel = this.nextElementSibling; if (panel.style.maxHeight) { panel.style.maxHeight = null; } else { panel.style.maxHeight = panel.scrollHeight + "px"; } }); } var observer = new IntersectionObserver(function(entries) { entries.forEach(function(entry) { if (entry.isIntersecting) { entry.target.classList.add('visible'); observer.unobserve(entry.target); } }); }, { threshold: 0.15 }); for (var j = 0; j < acc.length; j++) { acc[j].style.transitionDelay = (0.5 + j * 0.35) + 's'; observer.observe(acc[j]); }

We take it from concept through permit-ready documentation for airport jurisdictions — BOH layouts, modular millwork, kitchen design, signage, AOR coordination — in a live terminal, on a real budget. For multi-location programs, we build the design system and kit-of-parts once and scale it without losing what makes the concept work.

Travel retail is its own discipline. Duty-free, news & convenience, specialty retail, markets — each with its own operational logic, margin and brand structure. We have worked directly for airport operators, but our broader retail experience- department stores, drug stores, and convenience add a layer most design firms cannot match.

We develop the positioning, identity, and local story that makes a concession feel specific to a place and a passenger — including local operator and celebrity chef tie-ins that bring authenticity a national brand cannot manufacture.

We know what luxury and premium brands demand. Tumi, Saks Fifth Avenue, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior — we have built to their standards, navigated their compliance requirements, and created environments that earn their confidence and their customer.

var acc = document.getElementsByClassName("sp2-accordion"); var i; for (i = 0; i < acc.length; i++) { acc[i].addEventListener("click", function() { this.classList.toggle("active"); var panel = this.nextElementSibling; if (panel.style.maxHeight) { panel.style.maxHeight = null; } else { panel.style.maxHeight = panel.scrollHeight + "px"; } }); } var observer = new IntersectionObserver(function(entries) { entries.forEach(function(entry) { if (entry.isIntersecting) { entry.target.classList.add('visible'); observer.unobserve(entry.target); } }); }, { threshold: 0.15 }); for (var j = 0; j < acc.length; j++) { acc[j].style.transitionDelay = (0.5 + j * 0.35) + 's'; observer.observe(acc[j]); }
